Aesica Opens New Pilot Plant at Cramlington

Plant to produce pharmaceutical compounds for clinical development programmes

23rd August 2007 – Aesica today announces the official opening of its new pilot plant at Cramlington by Chairman Tom Brown.

The pilot plant at Cramlington will enable Aesica to manufacture and supply small-scale quantities of clinical compounds (10kg to 100kg) to its customers for use in their clinical development programmes and is an important step in being able to fully service Aesica's customer needs from clinical development through to large-scale manufacturing. The pilot plant will also provide Aesica with important process information and experience which can be used to design more efficient and productive manufacturing processes for full-scale commercial operations. Aesica already owns five computer-controlled multi-product plants with extensive chemical processing capabilities at its Cramlington and Ponders End sites.

The unit will operate to cGMP (current good manufacturing practice) as is required by regulators and customers for active ingredients.

Dr Robert Hardy, CEO of Aesica, said: "We are extremely pleased to open the new pilot plant at Cramlington. The plant will extend the range of services we can offer to our customers, allowing us to operate more efficiently and with greater flexibility thereby bringing us nearer to delivering our vision to become the number one supplier of APIs and formulated products to the pharmaceutical industry."
